Reason To Sing
least I won’t have to walk through that garage ever again. I hate
that more than anything.
I know I will miss all my friends and teachers and I’ll have
to find a new piano teacher too. But at least this time we’ll be
able to say good-bye properly. Yes, the more I think about it,
this is probably a good idea. Now, when people ask me where
my dad is, I can just tell them that he died of a heart attack. No
one will ever know. We can make a brand-new start. “Sally, do
you think you’d be willing to make the move to Calgary with
us? We’d sure love it if you could help us out. I know the girls
would love to have you with us too.”
“I don’t see why not. I’ve never lived in a big city.” She looks
over at me and winks, then smiles. “Guess I could become a
city slicker.”

I love our new house. It is a large ranch-style bungalow
and Vian and I each have our very own bedroom. With shag
carpeting that we got to pick out ourselves. Mine is bright
pink! I just love it. I feel like Barbie in her dream home!
We’re all happy in the big city. Turns out Sally loves being a
city-slicker. She takes Billy driving and serves him beers at the
same time! Then she teaches Vian how to drive her little blue
Datsun on the highway and Vian is only 9! She’s a crazy lady
and our favourite housekeeper of all time (and we’ve had lots!).
Maybe this fresh start will help Mommy get better too.
