SESSION 10 : Song of Songs Chapter 4:7-11
increased spiritual maturity have overwhelmed Him. He tells her that
her love is His finest wine.
It is astounding to think that in Chapter 1, we hear the Shulamite
declaring that His kisses are better than wine, and now, the One who
has poured His precious love into her is tasting the fruit of His own
labour within her heart—and complimenting her! It is described as the
finest of wine, because of all the fruit made available to us by the Holy
Spirit, agape love is the best of all His graces, because love never fails.
Although this may be difficult for us to grasp, her love has left Him
breathless, overcome, and a hostage to her heart. He is thrilled with her
and does not hold back in expressing His heartfelt desire and emotion.
We might ask ourselves, Why is this? How can it be that the King of
Glory loves His Bride—loves us—so much?
As I was writing this section, I had to cease writing on several occasions
because, despite being more sensitive and conscious of my numerous
failings of late, He began to pour this love down from heaven. Dearest
reader, His love completely broke me, and I can assure you from my
own personal experience that it is REAL and available to all who ask
for it.
I want to confirm this point even further by sharing with you what I
read in a very old commentary on Chapter 4 by George Burrowes:
“The soul, thus conveyed to the bosom of Jesus, is oppressed with a
deepening sense of unworthiness, and finds difficulty in believing there
