SESSION 10 : Song of Songs Chapter 4:7-11
In verse 11, He describes her speech as being like a honeycomb. Her
tongue releases milk and honey. Again, in another translation (King
James Version), it says: “Honey and milk are under thy tongue.”
Honey, as we know, is very sweet and nutritious. What is being said
here is that the Shulamite has now matured to the point where there is
an abundant store of encouraging and strengthening spiritual food for
those whom the Lord brings across her path—whether or not they be
mature or new believers. She is knowledgeable and approved as a
minister to those who are ready for the meat of God’s Word, while
simultaneously being sensitive and gentle enough to feed the weaker
lambs with spiritual milk, so that they, too, may grow.
Under her tongue is a storage place—a well of good things—which are
readily available to those in need. Notice that it says they lie under the
tongue, not on it. This is because she does not just blurt and spurt out
the abundant life she has gained; she distributes it with wisdom and
humility.
The Bridegroom now finds the Promised Land within her—a place of
joy, peace, abundant fruitfulness, and rest for Him to enjoy. By offering
Him His grace, she has now become one who exudes His fragrance and
walks in His righteousness.
And this is exactly what He will do for us—if we will but walk with
Him and yield to His desires for our lives.
