RADICAL LOVE
through Him, and without Him, not even one thing was made that has
come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.”
(John 1:1–4, AMP)
The lapis lazuli stone is the most sought-after stone. Its deep celestial
blue remains the symbol of royalty and honour, power, vision, wisdom,
and truth—all attributes of our awesome Beloved Bridegroom. The
Shulamite knew Him to be this, and now God is inviting all of us into
deeper intimacy, that we might also know Him as such.
Verse 15 talks about His legs being pillars of marble, set on bases of
pure gold, and He is compared to Lebanon—the place of stately cedar
trees. The image emerging from the description is far above earthly
standards. The cedars of Lebanon are very tall, and they grow on the
heights. Though a man, Jesus was still God Incarnate, and the
excellence of His character and conduct expressed God the Father—
and God as Mother—perfectly.
As we join Christ in the spiritual realm of revelation, we too will see
God as one of total dependability, trustworthiness, permanence, and
strength. The legs represent the foundation of our faith, who is Christ,
and again, we see gold being mentioned. They are set based on gold
because any other foundation for life—apart from Christ and His
grace—is sinking sand. (See the parable of the wise and foolish builders
in Matthew 7:24–27.)
