RADICAL LOVE
our own desires, dreams, and wishes, which emanate from within
ourselves and our carnal nature. As we grow in our love and trust of
Him, we will come to know that, despite how our external situation
may appear, we can be content and rest in the assurance that all things
will work together for our good. This is because we have committed
ourselves to our Good Shepherd’s care, and He is always faithful. Look
what Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11-13 (NKJV): ‘...Not that I
speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to
be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound.
Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be
hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all
things through Christ who strengthens me.’
The key to reaching this place in the spirit is increasing revelatory
knowledge regarding the character and nature of God, which comes out
of intimacy. Many commentators of this verse interpret it as pertaining
to external factors such as food, clothing, and other such forms of
provision, and of course, that is totally justified. But I believe the Lord
wants us to go deeper than the temporal.
In Christ, we can truly learn to become content and satisfied, regardless
of our circumstances. Our Shepherd never slumbers nor sleeps; He will
never leave nor forsake us, and all of our times are in His hands.
Consequently, even when it seems that life could not get any tougher,
He is ‘Emmanuel’—God with us—and we shall not ‘want’ for anything
necessary to get through as we choose to look unto Him.
