RADICAL LOVE
atmosphere of His presence —to have fellowship with God as Adam
and Eve did in the garden of Eden; to lie down, to be at rest, and enjoy
just being with Jesus; allowing Him to feed us with the fresh,
invigorating pastures of new revelation and experience greater depths
of His love.
Over the past few months, the Lord has been uncovering to me an
aspect of His nature that I was not very familiar with, by revealing the
‘motherly’ side of His character. He has shown me very clearly from
Scripture that He not only wishes to be our Father, but also to be our
Mother. For example, Isaiah 66:13 describes God comforting us as a
mother would. Psalm 131:2 describes how David has quieted his soul,
likening it to a weaned child with its mother. And Psalm 27:10 tells us
that if our mother and father forsake us, God will receive us. God is our
perfect Parent. You can read more about this topic later in this chapter.
I am aware that for some readers, this may seem an uncomfortable truth
to grasp, but I distinctly heard the Spirit of the Lord say that, at the
moment, most of the church is being parented by a one-parent family,
and that is not God’s best intention for us. We need a new revelation of
this ancient truth, especially if we are to become ‘good shepherds’ for
the equipping and edification of other less mature believers. God wants
us to be those who have had His whole heart deposited within them.
We then become true Shepherds who feed the flock, as opposed to
fleecing it—Shepherds with God's own ‘fatherly’ and ‘motherly’ heart.
