RADICAL LOVE
I can totally relate to and accept this interpretation, as it mirrors the
experience of my own life. To be taken to the threshing floor and
tenderised is this: firstly, by His grace, the Lord shows you an area of
your character that falls short of what He wants for you. But instead of
dealing with the flaw, He deals with the flow—and pours into you the
opposite characteristic, which melts the heart.
An example I will share is in the area of gentleness. I had been quite
abrasive with someone whose character was so ultra-sensitive
compared to mine that it drove me to distraction. However, the Lord
began to show me—with such love and tenderness—that he had never
been abrasive with me and wanted me to represent Him to others in His
way. At this point, I began to experience God’s gentle love in a tangible
way. It cascaded down into me, and tears began to flow, as I just sat
silently before Him.
After a while, I came upon a scripture that always serves as a great
reminder of His love, mercy, and grace. It is Psalm 18:35 from The
Passion Translation (TPT): ‘You empower me for victory with your
wrap around presence. Your power within, makes me strong to subdue
and by stooping down in gentleness you strengthened me and made me
great.’ Several other versions quite simply say, ‘Your gentleness has
made me great.’ As I meditated on this verse, my heart was tenderised
by love, and I stepped into a new level of dependence on God’s
provision of gentleness. What actually took place here was part of the
restoration of the soul to be all that God intended it to be. Simon Braker
