SESSION 3 : Song of Songs Chapter 1:3-8 (NKJV)
When we are not prepared to let people see who we are, because we
fear their opinion of us, it is often because the Holy Spirit has not yet
brought us to the point where we are fully convinced that we bring
nothing to the table.
We must never forget that our salvation, sanctification, and God-given
works are attributable to His grace alone. He approves of us, accepts
us, and loves us despite our flaws and weaknesses—and if He chooses
to use us for some noble purpose, what right do we, or anyone else for
that matter, have to be critical or question Him?
He therefore allows our weaknesses and darkness to be exposed to
some degree—and although it is very uncomfortable when this
happens, it cuts off fleshly pride and self-sufficiency, and brings us into
freedom.
Freedom, as I mentioned in earlier notes, takes courage and a
willingness to yield to God’s loving hand, even when it hurts.
Imagine the transformation in our lives if we were only concerned with
what God thinks of us. We would not be so chained to gaining the
approval of others, nor allow ourselves to become embroiled in much
of what the Church in the Western world seems to do very well—
unnecessary doing.
An excellent biblical example of this is found in Luke 10—the story of
Mary and Martha. Martha was distracted by her many tasks and became
somewhat agitated at her sister’s seeming unwillingness to help. She
