SESSION 4 : Song of Songs Chapter 1:9-17 (TPT)

          The Shepherd-King

15 Look at you, my dearest darling—you are so lovely!
You are beauty itself to me.

Your passionate eyes are like gentle doves.

          The Shulamite

16 My beloved one, both handsome and winsome, you are pleasing

          beyond words.
Our resting place is anointed and flourishing, like a green forest

          meadow bathed in light.
17 Rafters of cedar branches are over our heads, and balconies of

          pleasant-smelling pines.
          P
reviously, the Shulamite had just been pouring out her heart
and lamenting the fact that she had moved away from her

Beloved. But what does He do in verse 9?

He doesn’t mention the matter any longer, but instead consoles her by

calling her His dearest one—which can also be translated as “my

darling”—and begins telling her how He sees her.

In the first instance, He likens her to one of Pharaoh’s finest, strong,

regal steeds—the ones used for pulling his chariot. Notice that he calls
her the finest! Strong! And regal! This is who we are.

As I studied what it means for us to be likened to a horse, it revealed
some very important insights, which I will share with you.
