RADICAL LOVE

Verse 13 likens her lover to a sachet of myrrh, which rests like a tied-

up bundle over her heart. The myrrh is representative of the suffering
of Jesus on the cross. She is becoming more and more aware of the

price He paid to set her free from sin and death, and this selfless love,
which was poured out for her, is causing her to love Him more deeply.

So much so that in verse 14, she says that she will never let Him part

          from her.

However, something struck me when I read that her lover is like a “tied-

up bundle over her heart.” It speaks of how she is aware that He
suffered on her behalf, but her heart is not yet made ready by the Holy

Spirit—nor is she mature enough to understand—that it has also been
granted to her to suffer on His behalf. As yet, the suffering part of her

walk has not been realised in her life but is still “tied up,” so to speak,

until the Lord has made her ready through His love to walk in the
          fellowship of Jesus’ sufferings.

We see more symbolism pertaining to the sufferings and shed blood of
Jesus in verse 14, when we read about Him being likened to a bouquet

of henna blossoms. We usually give bouquets as presents. Jesus gave

every part of Himself, and every part of Him is lovely—and for us. He
is the greatest present available to mankind, and how we need a true

revelation of this truth so that we, too, will give ourselves away to Him
and share Him with a broken world.

The New King James Version has an interesting rendering of this

          verse. It reads:
