SO… THAT WAS FRIENDSHIP?

“It’s not just because of that. It’s also because you guys weren’t
there for me yesterday when I told you the bad news. And you replaced

me with… Aria? I’ve never even seen her in this school!”

They went quiet, and I continued, “And right before school started,
you had to ignore me on the last night? I called you guys that Sunday

night, and you never picked up. So what’s wrong with you?! Huh?
What did I do to deserve this?”

“Your whole ‘Grade 8 plan’ and this divorce drama—it’s tearing
everything apart! We’re tired of it, Charlie!” Madelyn snapped.

“Sometimes, I honestly regret ever becoming friends with you.”

“Oh, so this friendship was fake? Wow, you’ve really surprised
me. But I guess I shouldn’t be that worried. I have another friend, a

good brother, and at least… my parents to support me for now. But
you? I really hope I never see you guys again!”

Then I took the dog by the leash and walked off. I knew they were

staring at me. It was for a good reason anyway.
