CHAPTER 2

          A
fter that… I don’t know what to call morning. I met my

friends on the way to school.
“So, anything happen over your weekend?” one of my

          friends, Tara, asked.
“Mm, not really. It was kind of boring, actually,” I answered.

“Wait, Uncle Charlie didn’t come this week?” She tilted her head.

“No. My mom said he was sick.”
My other friend, Erika, declared, “Well, my weekend was great! I

went to the airport to pick up my sister, who’s been in New York for
          years! And—”

“OK, girl, we get it. You had the most awesome week ever,” Tara

          chuckled.
We had History the second class—unfortunately, with the one

teacher everyone dreaded: Mr. Clark. He’s the kind of strict that doesn’t
just hover… it rules the whole room. He teaches both Math and History,

which already says enough. He’s been around for over a decade, so by
now, we’ve all learned how to survive his intense, no-nonsense

          teaching style.

I was sitting at the side table with my best friends when he
suddenly hit us with some news none of us saw coming.

“OK, class, I know school graduation is almost here.”
               The class made happy noises.
