THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
Erika touched my shoulder too and said, “Who’s your date?”
Ohh, now I knew what this was about.
“Date?” I asked. “What date? I don’t have a date.”
“Girl, I know you do. C’mon, I bet there’s this guy you like who
you want to go with to the party,” Tara smirked.
And for some reason, I stammered, “No, I... I don’t even have a
crush!”
That’s when Caleb passed by us with his friends and said, “Sup,
Hoopster.”
Tara turned back to me. “Oh, really?”
I hit my forehead gently in disbelief. They really thought Caleb
was my crush. “Look, he is not my crush!”
In the cafeteria, while we were all waiting for lunch, I noticed
Caleb sitting just one table away. He kept glancing over at me, and it
was starting to mess with my head. Eventually, I looked back at him—
and then we just... kept staring.
Neither of us said a word, but there was something about it. As
weird as it sounds, I think I kind of liked it.
