CHAPTER 6

o I went outside the school building, where my friends were
waiting for me, and I told them all about it.
“Wow…” Dietra raised both eyebrows.
“Well, that’s weird,” Martin muttered.
“Yeah! Weird for a beginner comedian to join a club thinking it
would help improve their jokes and stuff—but instead, it failed.” I
scoffed.
Dietra shrugged. “Uh… I wouldn’t say it was a fail since you just
started—and you came late. Maybe you should give it another chance.
It’s worth a shot.”
“A chance? Hello? Middle school is almost over! I’m about to
graduate and go to high school. I shouldn’t be waiting to give anything
a chance—it’s too late.”
“Oh, c’mon, Shauna, don’t give up just like that. You’re going to
be a better comedian than you think. You just have to… try.” Martin
tried to convince me.
I thought about it for a minute. “Fine,” I sighed. “I’ll give it another
try. Maybe I can learn more and get better at comedy.”
“Now that’s what I’m talking about!” Dietra smiled and clapped
for a second. But honestly, I still thought it was best to just stay home
and learn comedy from YouTube.
When I got home, it was already late, so I knew I was in trouble.
