REFLECTIONS

hen I first came to Canada, what was
different was the way they spoke and the

pronounced. things they said — and how words were

For instance, one Saturday, I was asked if I wanted to

go to the flea market, and I was shocked. I didn’t know
there was a market that sold fleas! A flea is a parasite

that’s found on a dog. Plus, where I came from, dogs
were typically kept outside — but here, I noticed that

dogs were often kept indoors. I couldn’t figure out why
someone would keep a dog inside the house, or even let

it sleep in their bed.

Another surprise was being invited to attend a garage
sale. I didn’t even have a car. And why would I want to

buy a garage, even if it was on sale? Moreover, the
