SESSION 7
The song “I’m No Longer a Slave to Fear, I Am a Child of God” is, in
my view, a prophetic utterance from the throne room. I am convinced
that the reality of this song can be worked out in our lives—if we will
surrender to God and give Him the time to love us to the extent that all
fear is cast out.
As we can see from the text, she knows about God and has some level
of maturity, but now realises that head knowledge is not enough. It is
heart knowledge and the power of the Spirit that will bring about the
transformation necessary for her to follow her Lord. She is too
comfortable where she is. She does not yet realise that the previous
spiritual experiences were not given to her solely for her pleasure, but
to propel her forward into a new level of holiness before her Lord.
The Bible tells us that when we say yes to Jesus, we say yes to His
Lordship over our lives. We no longer belong to ourselves but belong
to Him (see 1 Corinthians 6:19; 3:21–23; 7:22–23; Romans 14:7–8;
Galatians 3:28 and 5:24).
From verse 16, we can glean that she thinks she can still have Him on
her terms—i.e., “as a cosy twosome.” She is happy and satisfied with
her present level of revelation. However, “what is good” is the enemy
of “what is best.” The Lord has so much more for each one of us if we
will but trust, obey, and seek Him.
Charles Spurgeon spoke these words:
