SESSION 4
“We rejoice and delight in You! We will remember your love more than
wine…”
Having seen the transformation in the Shulamite, the daughters of
Jerusalem are also being drawn into a level of greater commitment and
desire for the King. They announce their determination to keep focused
on Him, and we do well to follow suit. We must keep the fire burning
on the altar of our hearts and remember all that He has done for us—to
keep Him in mind even when things are dark and stormy, or when we
are being tempted, and even when we cannot see the way forward.
The Lord promises us that those who place their trust in Him will never
be put to shame (Romans 10:11).
In the final part of verse 4, the Shulamite says, “Rightly do they love
You,” because she knows and loves the King. This maiden has tasted
and seen how good and how worthy He is of our love because she has
experienced it for herself. It is not cheap love either. It cost Jesus
everything to reveal His love to us, and it will also cost us to love as He
loved.
As I pondered verses 3 and 4, the lyrics of the song “I Will Offer Up
My Life” by Matt Redman came to mind, and out of that song came
this prayer.
Jesus, I want to give You my whole life, every part of it, holding
nothing back.
I want to give myself to You totally, completely, and honestly
because You are so worthy.
