SESSION 4
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our
eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:1–2
NKJV)
We then see her beseeching Him to take her into His bedroom. There
are only two people allowed in a married couple's bedroom, and the
world is not allowed access. Although there are times to be involved in
corporate worship, times of fellowship in the secret place with the Lord
are of the utmost importance to our spiritual growth. Furthermore, the
Holy Spirit can only do certain things in us when we are face-to-face
with Him alone.
I have had weeping bouts, moments of such brokenness, and times of
ecstasy that only the Lord has witnessed—and rightly so. These times
of healing and deliverance, necessary for my spiritual growth, were
meant for our eyes only and not for spectators. In my experience, it is
at these times that the Lord has given me the most significant
revelations about Himself and my own heart.
Notice also how she addresses Him as King. Complete dedication to
His rule and reign in our lives always precedes a life of intimate love
and devotion. Why? I believe it is because surrender to God opens up
more revelation into what it means to live in covenant with Him. And
to the degree that we are convinced of our covenant-keeping God and
all that it entails, the greater our love will be.
