• “Auto Theft Analysis- A Basic Guide”- originated by ATPA AWG Co-Chair Matt Helmkamp-
Presented to the ATPA AWG for review and feedback. The purpose is to provide ATPAs looking to
hire analysts, with an overview as well as to provide some level of standardization for the current
analysts involved with ATPAs.
• Beginning in April- An “ATPA AWG Monthly Newsletter“ was compiled and disseminated to the
ATWP AWG distro list. This is a collection of news articles from around the nation involving auto
theft and related crimes along with an analyst note. Contributions from all ATPA AWG members
are encouraged.
May 2020
• ATPA AWG meeting- presentation by Colorado CSP/ATICC/CMATT Analyst Raegan Pyles presented
on a 3-year study and potential effects of COVID 19 on Auto Theft in CO. Best practice: readily
available auto theft data allowed for the creation of an Average Threshold.
• CO Chair Matt Helmkamp- compiled a survey based on an analysis he completed in Michigan
regarding “Owner Apathy” and presented it to Co-Chair Sev Vasquez and IAATI Oversight Directors
Reg Phillips and Robert Force. The idea is to expand the questioning nationally (internationally) via
a survey and compile the results, present to the ATPA AWG, ATPA/IAATI Directors and publish in
the IAATI magazine.
June 2020
• ATPA AWG Co-Chairs presented at the ATPA Directors meeting, introduced the Auto Theft Survey,
and discussed the ATPA Analyst Guide.
July 2020
• Upcoming: ATPA AWG meeting- to be held on July 23, 2020. Presentation by Michigan Dept of
State and Michigan Dept of Corrections.
