BOARD PAPER

Agenda Item: 4.8 Insurance Investigator of the Year Award

               Author: Mark Pollard

Date of Meeting: July 23, 2020

Type of Report: For Information Only

               Update:

A total of 12 nominations were received for the Award in 2020. The Branches and Chapters represented
by the nominations were: Australasian Branch, Latin American Branch and the South African Branch.

This year we decided to try a different approach in the selection of the winner. Rather than simply rely on
a small number of judges to choose the winner, we decide to involve the members in the process.

The logic behind this change was that:
                   • Providing members with the opportunity to read and compare the nominations of the short-listed
finalists, they would get a better understanding of what is required to submit a nomination,
therefore potentially resulting in more nominations next year
                   • by having a say in selecting the winner they become more engaged with the Association, and
                   • the winner can say they were selected by a large number of their peers

Copies of all 12 nominations were sent to each of the following two judges, who were asked to rank each
               nomination.
                   • Howard Barron, UK Branch
                   • Hans Kooijman, European Branch

Dave Petrelli of the USA was asked but failed to respond to any emails.

An email has been sent to every Chapter and Branch President requesting that they advise their
membership of the award and to put nominations in, however no responses were received from the
Presidents. As stated above nominations have been received from the Australasian Branch, Latin
American Branch and South African Branch.

Based on the responses from the two judges, the top 4 nominations were selected and copies of ‘author
approved’ public versions of their nominations were published on the IAATI website on 16th June.
