Agenda Item: 4.19 Manufacturers Liaison Committee
Author: George Baker and Brian Meeker (co-chairs)
Date of Meeting: July 23 2020
Type of Report: For Information Only
Update:
Q1-2 2020 activities:
• Zoom meetings conducted January 30, February 27 and March 25.
• May 6: Zoom meeting, attended by Jen Palacz (NICB), Brian Meeker (Iowa State Patrol), Mike Lewis
(FCA), Reg Phillips (VRSS), Martyn Huntley (Jaguar Land Rover), George Baker (GM) and Tinus
Odendal (IAATI President). Given cancellation of August annual conference, group will seek
options to provide manufacturers panel via a virtual format. Jen to email group listing of bills
being tracked by NICB’s gov’t affairs group. Group shared COVID implications and other concerns
during roundtable. Agreed to provide an update on committee activity in upcoming APB. Tinus
suggested we draft up a letter of support for manufacturers to be signed by IAATI and endorsed
by our committee (will be based on our current recruiting letter.)
• May 14: IAATI Board of Directors approved MLC resolution in support of secondary VINs and
other vehicle identification protocols. This resolution will be published in next APB.
• June 17: Zoom meeting, attended by Brian Meeker, Reg Phillips, Motsamai Mollo (Ford SA), Mike
Lewis, George Baker and Dwayne Jackson (Ford). Group welcomed Dwayne, a first-time attendee.
Group reviewed antitrust policy and approved previous meeting minutes. Discuss opportunity for
possible 90-minute manufacturers panel at fall TAVTI/SERC Zoom meeting. Good roundtable
updates: COVID conditions continue to impact participants, with most working from home;
perceived increase of fob thefts during vehicle shipment; OBD tools on the rise; can we leverage
IACP’s bill tracking efforts?
• Summer APB included an update on MLC efforts, a reminder to readers to support our outreach
efforts, and text of MLC resolution.
