Q1-2 2020 activities:
• Introductory Zoom meeting conducted February 27 (highlights previously reported).
• Zoom meeting April 15th (highlights previously reported).

• May 13 Zoom meeting, attended by Reg Phillips (VRSS, co-chair), George Baker (GM, co-chair), Iain
McKinlay (Police Scotland), Mike Kelso (NICB), Dave Roccaforte (NICB), Fran Hannigan (NICB), Tommy
Burke (NYPD), Les Cravens (Auto Data Direct), Barb Rambo (NICB). Team previewed request from FBI
for vehicle ID in support of a cold case, agreed on awards to be supported by the committee
(Component Parts Marking and Vehicle Identification Award), started discussion of current vehicle ID
training available, roundtable updates.
• May 14: IAATI Board of Directors approved resolution in support of vehicle identification best
practices, jointly submitted by Vehicle Identification and Manufacturing Liaison Committees (see
attached).
• May 19: VIC met via Zoom to review available footage in response to an FBI request for vehicle
identification assistance. Offered our group’s collective analysis of potential makes/model years of
vehicle of interest. FBI agent expressed great satisfaction with VIC’s support.

• June 16 Zoom meeting, attended by George Baker, Reg Phillips, Dave Roccaforte, Fran Hannigan,
Philip Opperman (Recoveri), and Tommy Burke. Group assessed our video review process in support
of the FBI cold case, reviewed this year’s award results, discussed the recently approved IAATI vehicle
identification resolution, continued discussion of training programs and opportunities.
• Summer APB included an update on Vehicle Identification Committee activities (see attachment).

Upcoming activities:
• Next Zoom conference call scheduled for 3 pm EST on August 19. Focus of discussion: training gap
analysis and opportunities, roundtable, open action items review.

• To increase awareness of our committee, we’ll provide an update on VIC activity via future APB and
VCT articles.
• We thank IAATI board members in advance for directing suggestions for vehicle identification training
opportunities and best practice sharing to Reg Phillips and George.
