Rich South - Varn

• Rich South High School is pleased to announce that 100% of our seniors have been
accepted into a college or university. All 190 seniors have received an acceptance
letter. We are currently working to plan a celebration to commemorate the occasion.
• March 4-6, all freshman students completed a college visit to the University of Illinois at
Chicago. It important to get students exposed to postsecondary options as early as
possible.
• On February 13 the Village of Matteson Clerk's Office registered nearly 50 students to

vote. Civic engagement is an important piece to our work in developing well-rounded
citizens. We look forward to first time voters casting their ballots in March.
• The Rich South Lady Stars won the regional competition in basketball. We are proud of
their stellar season.
• The Rich South Mock Trial Team has qualified for the state competition. They will be
st
traveling to the University of Illinois on March 21 for the state contest. We wish them
well.
• For the first time in District 227, we have a student who has earned a certification in
QuickBoooks. We also have students earning certifications Microsoft Office Systems.

• On February 28 , Rich South held its Black History Month Program. The program was
sponsored by our Afro Club and African American Literature classes.
• The STAR Academy has already had one student complete her requirements for
graduation. Other STAR students will earn their first credits in the program on March
13 .

Rich East - Garrett

About 70 juniors participated in a practice SAT test on February 19. Each are reviewing scores and
prepping for their next practice test in March.

The SAT Prep Class continues to be offered M, Tues and Th during 6th period for junior students to
prepare for their April 14 test.

Students in AP English Language took a practice test February 13 where they received specific
feedback on their essays to prepare for their May AP Exam.

In PE classes, 100% student increased in Fitnessgram testing from August to February

Rich East held its Turnabout Spirit Week and Pep Assembly during the week of February 24 and
February 29.

The Turnabout “Save the Last Dance” occurred on Saturday February 29.
