               Mirror Coating in Sports Lens
Mirror coatings on the lens not only look good but also provide a variety of
visual benefits. Mirror lenses have changed considerably in recent years as
technology has made it possible to create nearly limitless mirror colors and
densities. Today’s mirrors offer a broad range of possibilities and improved
optical performance for both prescription and non-prescription wearers.
Sure, colored mirror coatings are prevalent on sports lenses, and flash
coatings have found a fashion home on Rx. lenses, but there are also some
medical conditions that benefit from mirror coatings. The flash mirror
coating creates a dynamic effect because the lenses appear to change color
depending on how the light hits them. The latest trend in mirror coated
lenses is the lightly visible “clear” mirror. Mirror coatings have become
hugely popular on sports performance sun wear. Their colour and density
are matched with the base lens colours tint to enhance the wearers visual
comfort and performance. You’ll find mirror tints specifically designed for
water sports, land sports, snow sports, general sports, and bright sun. Light
transmission in a mirrorcoated lens is reduced because of the high
percentage of light being reflected. Mirrors reflect more infrared and ultra-
violet than they do visible light, which will benefit patients bothered by
glare or affected by dry eye.
The simple rule to select the suitable colour is by developing contrast
absorptions which is possible by determining the colour of the object being
focused on and matching the colour of the lens to the object. The colour of
that item will become more vivid. The other option is to use a lens colour
that matches the background. That colour will be enhanced, so the object
being located will be more apparent in its difference In short we can analyse
the application of tints in various sports as under:
               Golf : Green tint
               Tennis : Yellow tint

               Table tennis : Yellow tint
Cricket : Photochromatic or orange, red tint.
