208 Ophthalmic Lenses
atoric denotes a surface that departs from being an exact circular toric. In
fact atoricity is an extension of aspheric lens design, allowing the lens
designers to optimize both stigmatic and astigmatic lens. They provide a
wider field of clear vision than the conventional best form lenses, especially
for higher cylinder powers.
SUMMARY
The optical industry has certainly seen an avalanche of new developments
in the ophthalmic lenses during last 10 years. The improvements have
ranged from lens designs to lens coatings. The lens designers have really
taken the challenge and looking ahead for newer lens materials with
innovative properties so that one day they can fulfill their dream of making
a lens which has:
• High refractive index
• Low dispersion
• Unbreakable and unscratchable
• Low density
• Aspheric in design
• Available in all multifocal forms
• Easy to tint and ARC
• Economical from the patients point of view
• More profitable from our point of view.
