Have you always been going to fancy restaurants to
dine? Well, hawker centres not only house an array of
gastronomical delights that will awaken your tastebuds,
but the prices are also reasonable and will not burn a
hole in your pocket! Let us dive into the diverse culture
            of hawker centres!
Where are hawker centres found? Everywhere! They
            dotted all over the nation!
I always go to the hawker centre near Fernvale
Community Club to eat with my grandparents. The food
there is delightful. Sometimes, we travel all the way to
my father’s workplace at Tanjong Pagar to indulge in
the Wanton Noodles at Tanjong Pagar Food Centre. The
noodles are so oily, and the fried wantons are crunchy
on the outside and juicy because of the warm soup on
the inside. My family and I cannot get enough of it!
Hawker culture in Singapore, our little red dot, has been
awarded the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Award too! So,
Hawkers get up as early as four am to prepare the dishes explore our hawker centres today.
for the day. That is hard labour. We should respect them!
Hawkers also have a generous hand. They will always
pile up a wildly huge portion! They continue piling up “Hawker culture is where wanton noodles
nonstop until you beg them to stop. It is hilarious, really! come with a side of love and laughter —
The aunties and uncles would look at you, and if you are
a child, they will, with a big grin on their wrinkled faces, where uncles remind us to eat more and
say, “You are still a child! You must eat more!” And then, grow well.”
they start piling up a mountain of rice for you. It is really
            amusing!
                                                                                              Cherish Yap An Qi
Do you throw any of your belongings, typically a pack of P6.2
tissue paper, on an empty, unoccupied table? Reserving North Spring Primary School
seats that way is just ordinary, but to a foreigner, it is an
alien concept. See how unique our hawker culture is?
