Student’s Reflection

Our environmental review of Starlight provided invaluable insights into their operations and
environmental challenges. Engaging in detailed discussions with the management team, we
identified opportunities to enhance the company’s environmental sustainability. The need for a
more efficient washing and rinsing system emerged as a significant concern. To address this, we
proposed a three-partition cascade overflow system, enabling the reuse and recycling of soaping
and rinsing water. Our collaboration with Starlight broadened my understanding of industrial
operations and allowed us to implement practical solutions collaboratively.

The environmental review of Starlight offered a firsthand understanding of their environmental
concerns and operational challenges. This experience enabled us to identify areas for improvement
in their manufacturing processes. Participating in this project was enriching, allowing me to explore
our team’s capabilities and contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability efforts.

Our environment review meeting with Starlight Tool Precision Pte Ltd highlighted the need to
address water wastage, which has a significant environmental impact. Inspired by dishwashing
methods, our team proposed cascade overflow wash and rinse tanks with partitioned compartments
to facilitate water reuse and recycling. We successfully implemented this solution through iterative
trials and designs, mitigating water wastage effectively.

This project not only honed my skills in design and technology but also allowed me to tackle
environmental challenges and identify cost-saving opportunities for Starlight. Guided by our
lecturers, we ventured into the projectwith confidence, proposing valuable eco-solutions and
implementing effective measures to address environmental impacts.
