                     Development and Delivery Wing is, as the name sug-
                     gests, the home of the Development and Delivery ele-
                     ments of CFS, comprising of two teams:  Smith Barry
                     Academy (SBA) and Central Flying School (Helicopters)
                     (CFS(H).  Smith Barry Academy is located at RAFC
                     Cranwell and is responsible for Flying Training Develop-
        ment and Instructor Training whilst CFS(H) resides at RAF Shawbury
        specialising in training Helicopter Instructors.

         Mission: To train Aircrew Instructors and Flying Trg Managers on be-

                    sult on the delivery of innovation in flying trg.”

                                Smith Barry Academy (SBA) is named after
                                Lieutenant  Colonel Robert Smith Barry who, in
                                1916, developed new theories on flying instruc-
                                tion to improve the quality of flying skill on the
                                front line during WWI— began the journey that
                                led to the birth of the Central Flying School of
          the RAF.   Smith Barry went on to develop the Gosport tube, improv-
          ing cockpit communication between instructor and student—who bet-
          ter to name the R&D arm of CFS?

          SBA, part of D&D Wg, is the home of Aircrew Instructor Tg, R&D into
          innovation of fg trg instruction and Human Performance as well as
          owning and maintaining AP3456. It comprises 11 personnel including
          7 Service (Regular and Reserve) and 4 Civil Servants.
