P. 4
Dear Senior,
I am a senior attending Donovan Catholic High School. A little over a month ago, we were all living our
“normal” lives, some with a bit more freedom than others. Within a little time, most of us were stuck in the same
situation staying at home. Since most people aren’t used to staying home for a great period of time like you, they
don’t know what to do with themselves. I at least have school work to keep me busy. - Other people not so much, I
imagine you included.
Being a senior and having your last couple of months of high school stripped away isn’t pleasant. A little over a
month ago, most seniors were complaining that they can’t wait to get out and graduate, how March was going to be
such a long month because we didn't have any days off, and that it felt as if it was going to last forever. I guess we
all spoke too soon. Soon after, rumors spread about us heading over to virtual school due to the Corona virus. Most
people, myself included, called it all a bluff. Yet here we are, everyone staying home and we now have virtual
school. The only good thing this virus did to us was be an eye opener to not take anything for granted because just
like that, our whole world could be flipped upside down. A lot of people say that the situation the seniors are dealing
with isn't a big deal compared to what else is going down in the world and in the news. I agree. I am not saying our
situation is the biggest, but they shouldn’t diminish our situation as if it were nothing either. The rest of our senior
year is at stake: the memories we have yet to make with our friends, prom and most importantly graduation,
memories which we will take with us forever. I never went to my junior prom, and I told myself that it was ok because
there is always senior prom. From the looks of it now, there might not be a senior prom.
Would you be so kind as to share a memory you still hold of high school with me? I want to hear how your
high school experience was and if you made the most of it. As I look back to my high school experience, there are
many things I wish I did because I truly did not make the most of my high school experience. This is something I will
have to take with me, but I will learn from it and at least make the most of my college experience and my life in
general. As you know, we only live once, and I want to be able to say at the time of my death that I am pleased with
the life that I lived and that there isn’t anything I didn't do that I wanted to do in my lifespan.
Easter is around the corner. I want to wish you a Happy Easter.
Sincerely,
Ricardo
