Why IB?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is one of the world’s most
exciting educational courses for 16-19 year olds, grades 11 and 12. Pre-IB courses will be
available in grades 9 and 10.
There are IB World Schools in nearly 150 countries throughout the world, but only 10 in
New Jersey. It focuses on personal, professional and academic development and is globally
recognized by universities for the holistic and rigorous education it provides. Donovan
Catholic will continue to offer some AP courses along with IB courses. Juniors and seniors
will have several options when choosing their paths to graduation.
Freshmen and sophomores will receive explicit instructions on the procedure for applying to
the IB Diploma program.

                           The Curriculum

The IB program will build on the strengths of an already dynamic Donovan education while
recognizing the need for global awareness and commitment as students prepare for
citizenship in the 21st century.
The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of
knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay.
Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent re-
search and undertake a project that often involves community service.
