Inadequate Facilities
Storage – Storage of tables, chairs and other equipment is all over the
building. In some cases, items are stored under staircases which is
against fire code. There is no service elevator, and thus movement of
tables and chairs must be done using the only elevator in the building,
at specific times when members are not in the building. Large events
can only be held in the Main Dining Room, which requires extensive
movement of furniture. This can sometimes result in damage to the
furniture and the building itself.
Mechanical & Plumbing – The basement has no fire-rated protection,
and the electrical load is at maximum capacity. Over the years
electrical work has been done on an ad hoc basis, resulting in a tangle
of wires and greater risk of failure or fire. The water main and sewage
facilities are 120 years old and in desperate need of an upgrade.
Deliveries – There is no service elevator for deliveries to the building.
Everything must be handled manually and carried up and/or
downstairs for delivery to the appropriate place in the building,
requiring additional manpower.
Décor – Over the last eight years, the Club has successfully
redecorated all private dining rooms on the second floor and added an
elegant business centre on the third floor. The Main Dining Room and Opposite page: Kitchen and service entrance to
all lounges on the main floor, however, remain untouched and show the Garden. Above: Electrical room.
