SCAFFOLD COMPONENTS AND FALL BARRIERS ARE KEPT IN PLACE DURING WORK
It is important to keep scaffold components in place during work and not to remove or alter
any sections of the scaffold without consulting the supply company or the designer. The
persons who erected the scaffold are the best persons to make any changes.
Any changes to the structure could result in a catastrophic collapse. Certain alterations may
be critical to its stability, including the removal of ties or braces, the additions of bays,
shade cloths or lifts.
Procedures must be in place to outline what modifications may be permitted and who is
authorized to do them. Management must coordinate any alterations to a scaffold
structure. Small alterations may lead to a dangerous outcome.
It is recommended that “Do Not Alter Scaffold” signs be placed around scaffold
to reinforce the message.
