RIIWHS204E-Work safely at heights
MONITOR RISK CONTROL MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE
EFFECTIVE AND APPROPRIATE AND REASSESS RISK
CONTROL MEASURES, AS REQUIRED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH
CHANGED WORK PRACTICES AND/ OR SITE CONDITIONS AND
UNDERTAKE ALTERATIONS
The control measures that are put in place to prevent falls must be monitored to ensure
that they remain effective. They will need to be reassessed and, if necessary, revised to
make sure they work as planned and remain effective.
As different stages of the task are being completed, the hazard controls need to be
checked. These controls are in place to reduce the risk to works and as conditions (such
as weather, job location, the number of workers, etc.) change the hazard con trols also
need to accommodate for those changes.
Regular monitoring and review of work practices ensures that tasks will be completed
safely. When reviewing control measures, ask yourself:
Are the control measures working effectively in both their design and
operation?
Are all fall hazards being identified?
Are workers using the control measures in accordance with the instruction
and training that has been provided?
In the event of change being needed, you might need to add more controls or change the
ones that are there to keep yourself and others as safe as possible.
You will also need to regularly re -assess the work area and check for any new hazards in
the area. Control the hazards and if it is still too dangerous to carry out the work, stop until
the situation can be made safe.
