1.0 Wheel and Tyre Selection
Wheels, wheel fixings and tyres must be considered as ‘safety critical’ parts in all cases. For this reason
they must meet all of the required specification and legislative requirements. Each Group Company must
consider variations in vehicle type and local legislation.
Each Group Company must have a documented list of all vehicles in their fleet that specifies:
Vehicle type
Wheel, tyre size and aspect ratio
Wheel fixing type and size
Tyre pressures
Tyre rating (speed and where required load)
Torque settings (initial, where required, and final stage torque)
Jacking and lifting support positions
1.1 Wheels
Where wheels are not sourced from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Group Companies must
have processes in place to ensure alternative parts are fit for purpose and verified (See Global
Maintenance Standard 4 Parts Management (Including Safety Critical Parts). These must meet or exceed
the specification of the OEM supplied wheels.
1.2 Tyres
Each Group Company must ensure that tyres that are supplied under contract or tyres that are purchased
or leased, are fit for purpose and of the correct specification. For purposes of clarity this must include, but
is not limited to:
Size
Profile
Tread pattern
Speed rating
Load rating
Ply rating
Load / pressure marking
Suitability for summer or winter use
DOT compliance symbol (where appropriate), or local equivalent
Tube / Tubeless
Type of construction (Radial or Cross Ply)
Minimum Tread Depths
Remoulded / Recapped / retreaded tyres
Tyre Regrooving
Each Group Company must have an agreed and documented minimum standard for each vehicle type,
and variance thereof, for the vehicles in their fleet.
