Pine-Richland School District - Return to School
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Parents

                   ● Parents will be asked to conduct a daily temperature check to ensure students do not have a
temperature of 100.0 degrees F or higher and complete some form of attestation to assure school
officials that student health is being monitored.
                   ● Students who have not had their temperature checked at home will be directed to the nurse who
will complete a temperature check in a designated area. If a student does have a fever a student
will quarantine while waiting for a parent pickup.
                   ● Parents will be asked to support school health by keeping children home if they are sick or
symptomatic. The threshold for keeping children home from school is lower than the historic
level. As a result, increased levels of absenteeism are expected and attendance policies will be
adapted as needed to ensure personal and public health is the clear priority.
                   ● Parents should communicate directly with the school nurse via email of any changing medical
conditions. Staff members are also encouraged to communicate with the school nurse.

Q: What will happen if nobody is available to take a child’s temperature at home?
A: As stated above, students that are unable to have this done in the home will be required to have this
done during arrival time. Staff on duty will have a standing list of students that will be required to utilize
a separate entrance and have their temperature checked. If a student does have a fever a student will
quarantine while waiting for a parent pickup.

If obtaining a thermometer is a financial hardship, please reach out to the school counselor and we can
               work together.

Q: Who is going to teach students, parents, and staff about healthy hygiene practices?
A: Training materials and/or videos will be provided for students, parents, and staff so that a routine can
be established before the official start of school.

               Quarantining

Q: Who determines if my child or other children has to quarantine?
When a case is identified, the Allegheny County Health Department will be in contact with families of
               children who need to quarantine.

Q: What if my child has to quarantine?
A: Students will be able to switch to the online learning option. Please notify your teacher that your child
has to switch to online learning. If your child is sick and cannot participate in the virtual option, contact
your child’s teacher to make arrangements for make-up work.

Q: What if my child’s teacher has to quarantine for 14 days?
A: Your teacher can conduct instruction virtually from his or her home. At school, there will be an adult
staffing the room and monitoring the students. If that is not possible, a substitute teacher would be
               utilized.

REPORTING POSITIVE CASES OR CLOSE CONTACTS

Q: My child tested positive for COVID-19. What should I do?

                                                                                                            7
