Romans 10:15 the way of salvation is called

“the gospel of peace.” In Romans 14, verse 17,

the Kingdom of God is righteousness and

peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.

So when we come to this passage in verse

34, our first reaction is that this is kind of a

shocking statement. Is Jesus contradicting

Himself when He says to His disciples in verse

34, “Think not that I am come to send peace on

earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword”?

Well, we know that there are no contradictions

in the Bible, so let's look at that verse this

morning. First of all, go back with me to verse

1 and let's consider the context. In verse 1 the

Lord sends His twelve disciples out to preach.

This is their first commission. They're sent to

go out and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom
