avenge us of our enemies, because saints in
Heaven no longer sin.
And imprecatory prayers for our enemies
are not contrary to Jesus’ command in
Matthew 5:44. Jesus told believers in
Matthew 5:44 to love our enemies, but love
does not dismiss consequences for
wrongdoing and neither does it indulge
rebellion towards God and assaults on God’s
children. God told us to love and bless our
enemies in the context of physical necessities
if needed (Rom. 12:20) and not retaliating
when mistreated. It’s not loving to indulge
the sins of our enemies and not to warn
them of the eternal consequences for sins
against God.
