Figure 4.1.7 Thoracic Wall Histiocytic Sarcoma (Canine) CT
(a) CT, TP (b) CT+C, TP (c) CT+C, SP
4y FS Golden Retriever with a substernal thoracic wall mass. The dog was imaged in dorsal recumbency, and images have been reori-
ented. A large, superficial, irregularly margined, soft‐tissue attenuating mass is present ventral to the sternum (a,b: arrow). The internal
margin extends into the ventral thoracic cavity (a,b: arrowhead). The mass heterogeneously contrast enhances (b,c: arrow). A large, ovoid
mass dorsal to the cranial sternum represents marked sternal lymphadenopathy (c: arrowhead). Postmortem examination confirmed
thoracic wall histiocytic sarcoma with sternal lymph node metastasis. Other sites of distal metastasis were also found.
Figure 4.1.8 Rib Chondrosarcoma (Canine) CT
9y FS Greyhound with a left rib mass. Image b
represents a magnification of image a. There
is a moderately well circumscribed destruc-
tive and productive mass involving the
ventral aspect of the left seventh rib near
the costochondral junction (a–c: arrow).
The mass causes a focal extrapleural sign at
its interface with the left parietal pleural and
lung margins (b: arrowhead). There is mini-
mal enhancement beyond the bone prolifera-
tive margin following contrast administration
(d). Excisional biopsy confirmed high‐grade
chondrosarcoma.
