INDONESIA DOING BETTER IN TERMS OF JOB CREATION: MINISTER

Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah pointed to an improvement in job creation in Indonesia in 2021
in line with an increase in the number of members of the working population as compared to
              last year.

"Job creation in Indonesia is starting to improve, and this can be seen from the increasing
working population," the minister stated during a working meeting with Commission IX of House
              of Representatives on Monday.
Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), members of the working population
in August 2021 had reached 131.05 million people, an increase from 128.45 million as compared
to the corresponding month last year.

Taking into account those who work, the number of formal workers has increased, from 50.77
million people in August 2020 to 53.14 million in August 2021.

Likewise, the number of informal workers increased, from 77.68 million people last year to 77.91
              million in August 2021.

Fauziyah specifically highlighted the increase in the number of informal workers during the
pandemic, with the proportion in August 2019 reaching 55.88 percent of the total working
population and growing to 60.47 percent in August 2020. However, a decline occurred in August
              2021 to 59.45 percent.
