I was tempted to say, “all too soon we arrived at the Lagoon Café …” but it weren’t a minute
too soon. We easily managed to bag a long table in the shade and order drinks etc, but it was
rapidly obvious that the café was very popular with a different bunch of Australians. Musca
            Vetustissima!! The Aussie
            bushfly. They were many and
            nimble, but they only searched
            for sources of moisture or
            protein, and possibly for a
location to use their ovipositor. A
            tribute to their opportunistic
nature may be seen in the photo
below. I had a capped bottle of
cold drink, only uncapped it for a
            swig then recapped it straight
away. You’d think that this would
present a challenge to (not) my
mate musca. Not so. I’d drunk
two thirds of the bottle when
Dave S pointed out that I had a
            Vetustissima Cocktail!

Yes, they were nimble, they were
persistent, they were fearless, irritating, annoying and unbearable to my beloved. So, in
accordance with SWMBO’s wishes, we left earlier than intended and, reluctantly, with a fair
few of our number as-yet un-insulted.

The ride home was simple, the taking off of our riding kit was a relief (we did our own),
however, the aftermath was onerous to say the least (and I tend not to say the least).
“Timorous Spouse”, says she, “you dobbed me in as ride leader so you can write it up”. And
so I come to be sitting here, with only a soupçon of Sauvignon for company, fulfilling her
            imposition.

            WEDNESDAY RIDE - 15 December 2021

            Sermon on the Mount
            By Ride Leader Mike Parker

It was good to see Norm back on two wheels and Grant who had taken a rest from riding.
(Assures me he did not lose his licence).

19 riders, with Norm as TEC, set off for York (Mount Brown lookout) via Chidlow, standard
route, Neaves, Railway Parade, Haddrill then Bunning to Chidlow for the comfort stop. Beautiful
            weather, roads were quiet.

Leaving Chidlow the master plan was to go to the Mount Brown lookout for a photo shoot with
a great scenery. Well, this is where it all got a bit wobbly! Yep, I missed the turn off! No worries
found a place to do a U turn, once accomplished Ross was next to me and said He knew the
turn off. Phew! At least Ross knew where to go. Alas not so. Yep overshot the turn though
some of the more alert members picked the turn. Another U turn and finally we arrived at the
            lookout.

Time for photo shoot and this is where Pastor Karen found a rock from which a sermon could
be delivered, not too sure how many listened though!
