SUNDAY RIDE REPORTS

                              th
            Gingin Ride 5 December
It had been quite some time (before times) since a Sunday ride had ventured to The Gingin
Hotel for lunch, a pub to always get a decent meal. A recent ride had taken us on roads north
so a change was needed to be a bit different. Why not reverse the normal routes taken and
head south then north back through the hills to Gingin.

Nine of our regular Sunday riders fronted up on a near perfect riding day. Nigel took on the tail
end duties with Ken leading the group down Ocean Reef Road towards the Swan Valley and
right into Lord Street, now known as Drumpellier Drive then to Arthur Street which is a neat
little short cut to West Swan Road to Guildford.

From Guildford we took the old Gt Eastern Highway south to join up with the Tonkin Highway
until leaving right onto the Roe Highway, staying on this until the Kenwick By-Pass which
allowed us to head east along Albany Highway to Gosnells and the start of Mills Road West. It
is a bit of a roundabout way, but Mills Road West leads to Mills Road East, leading to Canning
Mills Road that takes you Canning Road. A left hand turn at Canning Road took us north and
to our morning tea destination at the Masonmill Café. With Christmas approaching the café
was quite busy but they found us a nice table for a morning chat while sitting on the terrace
chomping on scones and jam with a coffee. What could be better?
Our departure from the café was delayed a bit due to helping a biker whose bike had been
knocked over by a reversing car. No need for mirrors, just look at the camera!
The ride north was to continue through the Bickley Valley and meander to Mundaring.
Stoneville, Parkerville to O’Brien Road and down the woopy dos to the Great Northern
Highway. At this point four of the ride party took their leave, leaving just five remaining. It had
been intended to do the Chittering Valley and Bindoon on the way to Gingin but time was
against us so only the lower chittering was ridden and the Brand Highway taken to Gingin.

We were surprised to see Brian and Rob plus friend sitting inside the pub. They had ridden up
to join us for lunch so timing had been perfect. We all enjoyed a drink and various ordered
meals, standard pub food but tasty and good value. Another lunchtime chat solving world
problems until time to mount up and return to the burbs. An enjoyable ride with great company
            as usual.
