Western Cape Eco Tour
Western Cape Eco Tours like to offer their guests not just a tour,
but an experience. And with a choice of experiences to cover
everything from learning about and observing the marine life
and environment around Weipa’s waterways, through to chasing
your dream fish. It’s hard not to go away without a huge grin.
For the viewing tours, the specialised Eco boat has disability
access, great viewing for all, and an onboard toilet. Well shaded
for those sunny days, it’s an easy boat to spend a few hours on.
Tours on offer are the Daily Tour, Sunset Tour (complete with
bubbles and antipasto platters – a favourite) and Fishing Tour.
Specialised bird watching and custom tours can also be
arranged.
All tours are very popular, so it does pay to book ahead,
particularly during school holidays and peak season.
Fishing
Weipa and its surrounds are home to some of the Cape’s more
prolific fishing areas. With a charter, your own boat or a hire
boat you’ll have plenty of choice of where to go and what fish to
target. High on everyone’s list is the renowned Barramundi, but
don’t forget there’s a plethora of others out there too, including
Blue Salmon, Bream, Mangrove Jack, Golden Snapper,
Queenfish, Tuna and many more.
Weipa has a good number of charter operators and their
services range from half and full day trips through to multi-day
adventures. The charter guides are well experienced and always
do their best to bring you back with a big grin and that boasting
rights trophy shot!
Boat ramps are found at Napranum, Evan’s Landing – there’s
good fishing off the jetty - Rocky Point and Andoom River. There
are a good number of land-based spots in and around Weipa
too, including Evan’s Landing, Rocky Point, Mission and Andoom
bridges, the sand spit at Gongbong and Red Beach.
