WEDNESDAY RIDE – 1 June 2022
By Ride Leader’s Timorous Spouse
Karen and I came to an agreement (we do this occasionally), she would offer and lead the ride route that I’d
planned, and I would produce a modest write-up of the event. The plan was to take Neaves, Haddrill and
Campersic then ascend the scarp and skirt Gidgee via Reen then branch onto Fernie before approaching
Northam along the quaint (narrow and bumpy) Katrine. The planned route is shown in light blue on the map
below.
Fifteen of us set off and all went well until we got to Upper Swan. One of our number pulled over into a bus
bay just before the (frequently used) turn-off to Cathedral Rd, the following rider thought that this was a corner
marker and turned left, and the rest followed. The upshot was delays and one group continuing under Ross’
stewardship (red route) whilst Karen led the remainder along a revised route (lilac). It turned out that the two
groups arrived in Northam within a minute of each other. Both groups enjoyed the rides except for the
dislocation caused in Upper Swan.
So, I’m left to give thanks to two ride leaders, Karen and Ross, and to two TECs, BP and myself. BRAVO
you legends.
