Water, which is often taken for grant-
ed is a welcomed gift for the school
Pastor Boniface Diggs, Founder and Princi-
pal at the school, participated in a recent
dedication ceremony in which the gov-
ernment helped to provide clean water
to communities throughout Liberia. Libe-
ria has more water resources per capital
than any other country in West Africa, but
only 30% of Liberians or less have access
to safe drinking water and improved san-
itation. An elderly woman responsible for
cooking and taking care of younger stu-
dents at the school was ecstatic about the
project. She said that even more import-
ant than food, was water, and kept repeat-
ing the phrase, “Water is life, water is life!”
The Hope Mission school has
approximately two hundred (200)
students. However, a lot of these
students are from surrounding
communities that are poor and
experiencing hard times. There-
fore, they are unable to pay the
kids tuition, leaving the school to
operate on losses and some assis-
tance from the Westminister
Presbyterian Church in NY.
The well (pictured to the right) provided
much relief for the school which did not
have its own independent water. Close to
90% of the houses in the community do not
have toilets in them.
