                                                 PIONEERING GOLF COURSE
                                                 OWNER
                                                 William “Bill” J. Powell was an American businessman, entre-
                                                 preneur, & pioneering golf course owner who designed the
                                                 Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, OH, the first integrated
                                                 golf course, as well as the first to cater to African American
                                                 golfers. He was also the first African American to design,
                                                 construct and own a professional golf course in the United
                                                 States.


           KATHERINE DUNHAM
          Young Katherine Dunham and her brother, Albert Dunham Jr.,
          ca. 1920. Missouri History Museum (June 22, 1909 – May 21,
          2006) was an American dancer, choreographer, and company
          director as well as an author, educator, and social activist. Dun-
          ham had one of the most successful dance careers in American
          and European theater of the 20th century and has been called
          the “matriarch and queen mother of black dance.


                                                               ED BRADLEY

                                              Ed Bradley, journalist & one of the 1st African Americans to
                                              break into network TV news. He is best known for 26 years of
                                              award-winning work on 60 Minutes. During his career he covered
                                              the fall of Saigon, was the 1st Black TV correspondent to cover
                                              the White House, and anchored CBS Sunday Night with Ed Brad-
                                              ley. He received the Peabody, the NABJ Lifetime Achievement
                                              Award, 19 Emmys and others. Known for his style, he was the 1st
                                              male correspondent to regularly wear an earring on the air. R.I.P.






          CLARA “MOTHER” HALE               HUMANITARIAN

          Clara “Mother” Hale, humanitarian who founded the
          Hale House, a sanctuary for drug-addicted and HIV/
          AIDS-infected babies in Harlem, NY, was born in Phila-
          delphia, PA, on April 1, 1905.

                                                                         DIO IN GEORGIA
                                          Tammy Williams is the first black woman to own her own post-produc-
                                          tion studio in the state of Georgia. Williams has recently started Open
                                          River Studios in Fayetteville. Open Rivers Studios is a 16,000 sq. ft. com-
                                          plex with production and post-production operations. Williams hopes to
                                          attract Independent filmmakers and provide original programming that
                                          will lead to future licensing contracts.
