TECH TALK

Welcome to Tech Talk June edition.
Well nicer weather is upon us and its time to get outside and enjoy the weather. Some will be travelling to summer
destinations and taking computers to keep in touch with the rest of the world. While I encourage a break from electronics
and enjoy the outdoors some rely on technology as a communication device to family.
Before heading off it may be a good time to have these devices checked for malware and viruses. You may be using a public
Wi-Fi connection so please ensure your anti-virus and malware protection as up-to-date. You may also want to invest in
VPN (virtual private network) software for your computer for added protection in public access internet connections.
As always be wary of websites you do not normally go to and if you do get a pop up that says CALL MICROSOFT, just don’t
call it’s not Microsoft. As for our most popular social network Facebook, I have been seeing lots of cloned accounts and lots
of people posting the I don’t give Facebook permission to use photo’s. First and foremost, do not ever use a picture of
yourself as your main picture, use something else, your account is less likely to be cloned this way. Also, you are sharing
images and your life in a public setting, while there are copywrite laws that protect you to some extent you are using a
company’s platform. If you do not want your images shared, simply do not post them on this type of a platform.
Think of the internet as a giant bulletin board, if you are comfortable putting something on a bulletin board in a public
place then post away. If not then choose wisely and don’t post. As always if you have a question feel free to reach out and
ask.
Well, it’s Friday and it looks like it’s going to be an amazing start to another weekend.
Until next time.
