1940’s Grandfather Jack Munford had already retired from his
own butchers premises in York and lived in a bungalow
overlooking a golf course above the Scarborough North Bay. He
had also lived a colourful life.

Like many other bits and
pieces of my early family
history I was never told the
ins and outs and just left to
find out for myself as time
went by!
In her youth,
Grandmother Munford had
lived just outside Harrogate
in the countryside in a small
hamlet called Farnham with
her sister, mother and
grandmother. She was a very
attractive young woman and
Grandfather had obviously
taken a shine to her.
As far as I can ascertain the actual marriage bit lasted only
days. Can you imagine the feminine powerhouse Jack Munford
had to contend with.
Those few days however were sufficient to conceive my
mother who duly arrived and also lived with the other four
ladies. Grandfather, and his family before him, as well as being
butchers, had invested their spare capital in rental property
