Page 37 - EBONY AN EXCEPTIONAL SHIRE HORSE
P. 37
Ok, that was two amazing events, the third is even more
so! On location, Filming in Norfolk with Jeremy Irons..........
This is Weybourne Station on the North Norfolk Railway, the scene of the first
day on location for Ebony and Sam.
The big advantage of using Ebony and Sam for work like this was that they
were both used to pulling Heavy Wagons with iron wheels. Wheels that
rumble and grumble on the roads of today. In London at the Brewery, all the
wagons had iron wheels. They were commercial vehicles, built heavy to carry
heavy loads.
The Batemans Brewery Dray you have seen and can see on the videos is
very heavy with iron wheels. Unless a horse has been trained to work with
these vehicles, the noise the wheels make would be very frightening.
This scene was shot at 8am one morning and we had left home in
Lincolnshire at 4am to get onto the film set in time!
We had hired a large horse box and towed our big trailer with the two vehicles
on board.
This next photograph is the only picture we have of the third day on location,
this time at Walsingham in Norfolk.
