Page 35 - EBONY AN EXCEPTIONAL SHIRE HORSE
P. 35
A far cry from London, but we were not using our horses every day. Previous
picture is Ebony in the dray we devised for giving rides to visitors to the New
Heavy Horse Centre in 1989.
In the picture with me is Reggie the Jack Russell who always travelled on that
dray whenever and wherever it went!
He normally stood on the footboard between my feet and eventually he took
to grabbing the reins in his teeth and steering the horse...or trying to!
But you see, horses like this are used to voice commands and Reggie was at
a disadvantage as he did not speak the same language.
With Ruth is Dickon, Dalmatian dog No 2.
A DIFFERENT AND EXCITING PERIOD FOLLOWS.
We now move on to an exciting period of time for Ebony.
With the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre Opening a year after he and Sam
had arrived. He was in big demand, not only from the visitors to the centre but
also for events away from home.
In 1990 he was asked to provide transport for the Bateman's Brewery Dray at
a special event in Boston. Bateman's are the local Brewery Family based at
Wainfleet, not far from Skegness.
The dray is actually owned by the Sanderson Family from Croft also near
Skegness and the Bateman's Brewery have the use of it.
