Our business concluded, Sue asked us if we could give her a lift down the road to the next
village to collect her car that had been in for an MOT inspection.
I moved around the bales of hay littering the back of our little car and after installing the
harness climbed in beside all the bits and pieces. Sue installed herself in the front beside
Ruth who drove.
Arriving at the garage, I should have known better than show surprise at the smart auto
mobile that stood proudly among the modern stock of cars for sale.
This one was Sue’s, it had a beautiful curved brass radiator the distinct shape of which
could only be from one very famous marque of vintage motor vehicle with its temperature
gauge mounted on top.
The long four door canvas topped open body work, huge wooden spoked wheels with their
tall narrow tyres stood almost head and shoulders above the modern cars on either side.
Picture of Bull nose Morris Cowley from the internet.
(This is not Sue's car but the same model and similar colour.)
This was a Bull nose Morris Cowley and Sue’s pride and joy.
It had been in the family from new and would forever remain so. With a cheery wave and
broad grin she mounted her steed and duly departed for her home.
We understood more now why she had really needed that tumbler to sustain and provide
some inner central heating for that ‘fresh air’ journey back home.
